Summary

New York Times best-selling author and professor Brené Brown offers a powerful and inspiring book that explores how to cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to embrace your imperfections and to recognize that you are enough。

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be。 We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate。 So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself? In The Gifts of Imperfection, Bren頂rown, PhD, a leading expert on shame, authenticity and belonging, shares what she's learned from a decade of research on the power of Wholehearted Living--a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness。In her ten guideposts, Brown engages our minds, hearts, and spirits as she explores how we can cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough, and to go to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am sometimes afraid, but I am also brave。 And, yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable, but that doesn't change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging。

Get this book。 For me, it was life-changing。 I actually wanted to buy several copies and give them out to all my loved ones, but I'm not **that** much of a changed person yet。 But, because of this book, I'm really working on it。 Read it and see what I'm talking about。 It'll be worth it。。。。 Get this book。 For me, it was life-changing。 I actually wanted to buy several copies and give them out to all my loved ones, but I'm not **that** much of a changed person yet。 But, because of this book, I'm really working on it。 Read it and see what I'm talking about。 It'll be worth it。。。。 。。。more

What an amazing book! There is so much to digest and apply in this book! I always listen to books, but this one I think I might buy to have as a reference guide too。 I especially loved the chapter on play and rest。 Two things I do not do very well。 I am going to go back and listen to that chapter with my husband and see how we can better apply it to our lives。

Goede inzichten, laat je nadenken, handige tips aan het eind van ieder hoofdstuk。 Fijn dat het persoonlijk is geschreven en niet super theoretisch is, daardoor leest het gemakkelijker door。

I used to love listening to Brené Brown's speeches, so I was convinced I'd love reading her book。 Unfortunately, I did not, and I don't recommend it either。 Dull, unstructured, irritating at times。 Not a fan。 I used to love listening to Brené Brown's speeches, so I was convinced I'd love reading her book。 Unfortunately, I did not, and I don't recommend it either。 Dull, unstructured, irritating at times。 Not a fan。 。。。more

Un-Self help bookI thoroughly enjoyed reading this book。 It’s the anti-self help book in that it teaches to embrace yourself with all your imperfections, not to take things too seriously while underneath this message are myriad suggestions of living a wholehearted life。

I read the 2010 edition of this book, and I know there is a 10th Anniversary edition out with (I believe?) an updated forward? Maybe? The reason I gave this a 4 instead of 5 is because it did seem a little dated and since I’ve read all of Brené’s other books and have listened to her podcasts extensively, I know she has grown so so much since this was written。 Here are my favorites (all of them!) in order of my love: 1) Braving the Wilderness 2) Rising Strong 3) Daring Greatly and 4) Daring to Le I read the 2010 edition of this book, and I know there is a 10th Anniversary edition out with (I believe?) an updated forward? Brene does have some good life advice。 It is one of her earlier books, but I enjoyed it and thought it was a solid book that I would definitely recommend。

I have been obsessed with Brené Brown’s The Power of Vulnerability for years。 I’ve been meaning to read The Gifts of Imperfection since listening to The Power and I am so happy it was re-released in a new edition with Brené Brown narrating it。 I really think it’s best to hear her words in her own voice。 The ideas in this book changed my life。

。。more

Man, this book was so enlightening。 Perfectionism is a shield? I did not see that coming。 But it’s been so true for me。 Once I realized why I strive for perfection, I was able to let it go。 It’s truly been life changing。 I highly recommend this book。 I love her work。

I really enjoy Brene Brown’s work。 I am data driven, so I appreciate that she supplements her stories and ideas with years of research into the topics she’s discussing。 It doesn’t feel like reading one woman’s philosophy on life (although I do love hearing individual philosophies)。 Brene’s words feels very intentional and well investigated。 This is the kind of book that you need to read slowly to absorb every word, which I definitely did at the beginning and came up with SO MANY new concepts of I really enjoy Brene Brown’s work。 I am data driven, so I appreciate that she supplements her stories and ideas with years of research into the topics she’s discussing。 It doesn’t feel like reading one woman’s philosophy on life (although I do love hearing individual philosophies)。 Brene’s words feels very intentional and well investigated。 This is the kind of book that you need to read slowly to absorb every word, which I definitely did at the beginning and came up with SO MANY new concepts of vulnerability and boundaries。 Towards the end I’ll admit I wasn’t as intentional while reading, so I got less out of the second half。 I’m definitely interested in reading it again to revisit some of that wisdom! 。。。more

Love Brené。 Love her work。 Took so many important points and lessons that align with the self work I am currently doing in this season in my life。 Easy and fast read。

Great idea。 Kind of lackluster book though。

So fascinating to finally finish reading this book after starting it shortly after it came out in 2010。 I needed it so badly during that phase of my life, and I’m finding that I’m needing it now, too。 It’s interesting to see how much Brene has grown in her own research hypotheses, and her storytelling since then。 She’s a powerhouse and I love her。 Might go ahead and reread a few of her other books now, too。

Brent shares a lot of personal stories but not a lot of depth on some of the guideposts。 Sometimes this is good but sometimes I wanted a little more from what the research revealed。 Great entry into Berne’s work。 Not too heavy of a read。 Writing style is easy to read。

The answer is yes。---I’ve learned that we need to cultivate the spiritual practices that lead to joyfulness, especially gratitude。 In my own life, I’d like to experience more happiness, but I want to live from a place of gratitude and joy。 To do this, I think we have to take a hard look at the things that get in the way of gratitude and joy, and to some degree, even happiness。 。。。more

I always enjoy Brenè Brown's books。 They always give me something to think about and force me to contemplate my own life。 The title The Gifts of Imperfection is perfect and something we all need to recognize as a gift。 It isn't an excuse not to do your best but a celebration of humanism。 I always enjoy Brenè Brown's books。 They always give me something to think about and force me to contemplate my own life。 The title The Gifts of Imperfection is perfect and something we all need to recognize as a gift。 It isn't an excuse not to do your best but a celebration of humanism。 。。。more

Brown inspires with her stories of telling the truth and standing up for what's right。 The book brought me to tears at times, to laughter at others。 While the lists of steps to take were useful, I think I'm getting tired of "10 steps to becoming a better person", or "3 ways to change the world", etc。 I did find that the portion where she talks about how she has never belonged became a bit of an adulatory comment on the tribe of non-belongers, to which she belongs。。。。I listened to the audiobook ( Brown inspires with her stories of telling the truth and standing up for what's right。 The book brought me to tears at times, to laughter at others。 While the lists of steps to take were useful, I think I'm getting tired of "10 steps to becoming a better person", or "3 ways to change the world", etc。 I did find that the portion where she talks about how she has never belonged became a bit of an adulatory comment on the tribe of non-belongers, to which she belongs。。。。I listened to the audiobook (because I needed an audiobook in order to finish a Summer Reading Program, that's why) and was reminded of why I dislike them。 I can't pause, replay, or slowly savor a paragraph or phrase。 I can't go at my own pace。 I recognize that the act of reading itself, above-and-beyond the content, is what I love。 。。。more

Another good read by Brené Brown。 Enjoyed the audio version read by the author。 I didn't think there were any new points or lessons in comparison to Dare to Lead by her so I'm stopping with this one and won't be reading any other books by her as they seem to all deliver same message under different sauces。However, I still really much liked it and it's a great book to be read first of the ones she wrote in my opinion。 And the lessons provided within are great to be repeated over and over。 Another good read by Brené Brown。 Enjoyed the audio version read by the author。 I didn't think there were any new points or lessons in comparison to Dare to Lead by her so I'm stopping with this one and won't be reading any other books by her as they seem to all deliver same message under different sauces。However, I still really much liked it and it's a great book to be read first of the ones she wrote in my opinion。 And the lessons provided within are great to be repeated over and over。 。。。more
